Dhaka varsity turns 90

Dhaka: Dhaka University, one of the oldest institutions for higher education in Bangladesh, has turned 90.
Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Indian scientist Satyendra Nath Bose and Nobel laureate and founder of the Grameen bank Muhammed Yunus are among the famous alumni of the university.

The Dhaka University Day was observed Friday with great enthusiasm among the teachers, students and officials, the Daily Star reported.
Hundreds of people took part in discussions, cultural events and competitions to mark the day. The campus was also illuminated with colourful lights.

PMA to hold medical education session on Arthritis

Karachi: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA -Karachi) plans to hold Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on Arthritis at PMA House on Saturday.
Key speakers on the occasion will be Dr. Mehfooz Alam, Consultant Rheumatologist at Aga Khan University Hospital and Ziauddin University Medical Hospital and Dr. Saleha Ishaq, Consultant Rheumatologist at Aga Khan University Hospital.

Iran, Pakistan to collaborate in education

Islamabad: Leading universities of Iran will soon collaborate with Pakistani universities and have joint ventures in different fields of education.

This was expressed by Focal Person Women of Iran, Dr. Masooma Mohammadi, leading an Iranian delegation, during her visit to Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Saturday.

2-day HEC education conference starts

Islamabad: National Conference on Setting Standards for 21st Century began in Islamabad here on Thursday.

The conference was organised by the Higher Education Commission.
The HEC brought together stakeholders including parliamentarians, diplomats, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and members of the civil society to help promote university-community and university-industry linkage.

Inter exams 2011 from May 7: BISE

Faisalabad: Annual Intermediate (Part-II & composite) examinations 2011 will commence from May 7.

According to Chairman, BISE Faisalabad, Syed Mumtaz Hussain Shah, roll number slips were dispatched to all private candidates at their given postal addresses, while regular students can get these from their educational institutions.
He said the candidates should contact BISE office in case they don’t get roll number slips till April 25.
The candidates can also contact board office, till April 28, if they find any discrepancy in their roll number slips, he added.

Matric exam begins in Sindh

Karachi: The examinations of Secondary School Certificate (class nine and ten) Science and General groups began on Monday (today) across the province, including Karachi, while mismanagement has been reported at various centers

The city administration has imposed section 144 in all examination centres of the city and photocopy shops will also remain closed during the examination timings.
At least 327,000 regular and private candidates are appearing in the exams at 225 centres in the city. The morning shift paper timings are 9:30am and the second shift will start at 2:30pm.

KU’s directory unveiling on 20th

Karachi: The Graduate directory of the Karachi University Business School (KUBS) will be launched at a ceremony to be held at a local hotel on April 20.

FUUAST announces result of B.Com

Karachi: Controller Examination Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) Waqarul Haq has announced the result of B.Com external (Part-I) annual examination-2009, held on 2010.

According to result, 697 candidates were registered; out of them 666 appeared in the exam, while 81 candidates passed it.

Finance ministry refuses to release Rs7.7b to HEC

Islamabad: Exerting more pressure on the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the Ministry of Finance refused to release instalment of recurring budget worth Rs7.7 billion for fourth quarter of the year 2010-11, which would ultimately make it difficult to provide funds to 71 public sector universities for payment of salaries to their employees, sources told this scribe here on Friday.
