Chicago: Spending a few minutes before a test to write down their anxieties could help students perform better, researchers report in the journal Science.

South Korea schools get robot English teachers

Seoul: Almost 30 robots have started teaching English to youngsters in a South Korean city, education officials said Tuesday, in a pilot project designed to nurture the nascent robot industry.

Apart from reading books, the robots use pre-programmed software to sing songs and play alphabet games with the children.
Engkey, a white, egg-shaped robot developed by the Korea Institute of Science of Technology (KIST), began taking classes Monday at 21 elementary schools in the southeastern city of Daegu.

Education vital for heart care

New York: The less education people have, the greater their risk of eventually developing chronic heart failure, a large new study finds.

Researchers say lower education levels are basically a stand-in for people’s overall economic condition, and that their findings add to evidence connecting poverty to heart disease.
The results, they add, also suggest that heart failure prevention for lower income people needs to begin early in life.

Electric brain stimulation can improve math skills

London: Stimulating the brain with a very low electric current can enhance a person’s maths ability for up to six months, British neuroscientists said on Thursday.

Researchers at Britain’s Oxford University studied 15 volunteers and demonstrated for the first time that electrical stimulation of the brain improved their performance in a series of maths assessments, and continued to do so half a year later.
